A blister pearl is a unique type of pearl that forms when an irritant, such as a parasite or foreign object, becomes trapped between a mollusk’s mantle tissue and its inner shell surface. In response, the mollusk secretes layers of nacre (mother-of-pearl) over the irritant, resulting in a dome-shaped pearl that is attached to the shell’s interior.
